Harold (Hal) J. Willson, Jr. practices in the firm’s Greenville, South Carolina office and serves as the firm’s managing shareholder. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Wofford College and his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was a member of the Environmental Law Journal. He practices in the area of Workers’ Compensation Defense and is a Certified SC Civil Court Mediator.

Hal was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1993 and is a member of The South Carolina Bar Association, the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. He was named US News Best Lawyers® for Workers’ Compensation Law 2011-2024 and to Greenville Business Magazine Legal Elite for Workers’ Compensation in 2020 – 2023. Hal holds an AV Preeminent rating from Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell indicating the highest level of ethical and professional excellence. Hal has previously served on The Kids’ Chance of South Carolina board and served on the board of the South Carolina Educational Association from 2007 through 2012. In 2017, Hal was awarded the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Educational Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the Workers’ Compensation System in South Carolina during the course of his career.

A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Hal lives in Greenville with his wife, Suzanne.  He has two adult sons, Arthur and Matthew.  He is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville and in his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and hunting. Hal served as a JAG officer in the South Carolina Army National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 22 years of service.
